The Men's Ministry held its most recent meeting on Sunday June the 5th. There was an open discussion about Nimrod, the builder of the Tower of Babel (Confusion) and founder of the city of Babylon, and his wife Semiramis, the prostitute who founded the pagan mystery religion of Babylon, mentioned in the book of Revelation. Nimrod was descended from Noah through Ham (Africa), the rebellious son who did not cover his father's nakedness, and was a son of Cush (Ethopia), and was called a great hunter and the founder of the world's first empire, that of Babylon. Josephus, in Jewish Antiquites, called Nimrod “the father of heathenism” who persuaded his people that it was “cowardice to submit to God” and taught it was “their own courage which procured their happiness” and not to ascribe their happiness to God. Nimrod thought to raise a tower so high that if God were to drown the world again the waters would not be able to cover it, thereby exacting his revenge on God for destroying their forefathers. Alfred Edersheim in his Old Testament History observed that God in sending the flood “had indeed destroyed sinners but not sin”.

Semiramis was the wife of Nimrod and who was the inventor of the Babylon Mystery religion, Satan's greatest lie, in an imitation of the plan of God for Man's salvation. Ancient sources have Semiramis as a brothel owner, or at least a manager, in the city of Erech or Uruk, founded by Cain in honor of his son Enoch, when she met Nimrod in circumstances which can be imagined, but not completely known. The name Semiramis is a Hellenized form of the Sumerian name “Sammur-amat” of “gift of the sea”. Semiramis formed a false religion to bolster her and her husband's rule, based upon the God's revelation to Noah's ancestors of a divine birth of the One who would suffer and die to relieve man from the curse of sin, who would become the Lord of Creation and resubjugate the cosmos to God through Him. It would not do, of course, to have the mother of a divine child be a harlot, so a “polite fiction” was promulgated that Semiramis was a virgin who sprang from the sea when Nimrod landed on the coast of Shinar and was thus “worthy” to be the consort of the emperor and mother of the divine Tammuz, who was miraculously conceived. Originally the name of Semiramis's son was Damu (which in Summerian means 'blood'), became in Babylonian Dammuzi, in Hebrew Tammuz, and in Greek Adonis.

I am astonished at how quickly, completely, and cleverly Satan puts forth his imitation of God's plan. I can see how God's plan of salvation for man was known to the heavenly host before the creation of man, but for Satan to usurp the position of the Jesus the Christ, the Anointed of God, the only Son of God through whom the inheritance of God would be transmitted to man in his fallen state is truly an act of supreme egotism. Satan wants man to believe that man is the cause of all good that befalls man, just as he corrupted Adam and Nimrod in the beginning. Really, the story changes a little in time, but at the most basic message of the story is always the same, showing all men we need God to be able to resist the tricks and lies of the devil.

Our Brother, Len Deane, has posted a prayer wall in the Life Enrichment classroom. We prayed for the people whose prayers are posted there. As a group we should remember to pray for the authorities placed over us, for our church, for each other in love and a spirit of reconciliation. Also Brother Deane has made us aware that Promise Keepers are coming to the Philadelphia area next month.

Plan for the next Men's Ministry Breakfast on August 6th. Before eating there will be a work time where we will be doing work projects around the Church grounds, clearing brush, putting away tables, and generally lessening the clutter in the building.
