Jesus said to him, "I Am the Way, The Truth and The Life..."
by Leonard A. Deane Jr.

“Jesus said to him, I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Two of the most remarkable messages by Jesus are found in John 14:6. First, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life." Second, “No one comes to the Father except through Me." Jesus is three things: "The Way, The Truth and The Life." He is our gatekeeper and holds the key to Heaven.

“I am the Way,” Jesus is the only way to God…John 14:6. As Peter would later proclaim, there is no salvation but through Him – “He is the stone you builders rejected, which has become the capstone. Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:11-12)

Jesus is truly the only Way to God. How? By revealing Him: “No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father’s side, has made him known. (John 1:18) By opening the Way to Him: “Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body,” (Hebrews 10:19-20) By serving as our high priest: “For this reason he had to be made like his brothers in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.” (Hebrews 2:17-18) He now intercedes for us: “but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.” (Hebrews 7:24-25)

Jesus not only is the Way to God, He is the Truth. What is this Truth? “Jesus answered, You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the Truth. Everyone on the side of Truth listens to me.” (John 18:38) Jesus is speaking about that which is factual and absolute, not relative.

Freedom from the bondage of sin becomes even more meaningful when we consider how Jesus is Life. Jesus offers abundant Life that the world can’t give: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27)

Jesus provides Eternal Life: “In reply Jesus declared, I tell you the Truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again. Jesus answered, I tell you the Truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.” (John 3:3; 5)

Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. “I am” is emphatic and echoes the name by which Jesus wished to be worshipped. The name that expressed his character as dependable and faithful. Jesus who desires the full Truth of his people. The embodiment of Truth provides freedom from the guilt and bondage of sin.

Has Jesus become your Way, your Truth, and your Life? Do you have a close and personal relationship with Jesus Christ? Have you been delivered from the guilt of sin through the blood of Christ? Jesus may be "the Way, Truth, and Life,” but He is of no value unless He becomes "your Way to the true salvation” that leads to Eternal Life with God. Have you responded to the gospel of Jesus Christ?

God Loves you. “In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” (John 14:2-3)

Dear Father in heaven, I admit that I need you. Please forgive my unbelief and the things I have done wrong. I believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that He paid for all my sins with His blood on the Cross. Thank you Lord for saving me. Amen.

Matthew 22:34-40 "Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: 'Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?' Jesus replied: 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.'"
