The Message of Easter: Closed Doors, Open Tomb!

This is the churches finest hour and reason for the world's greatest hope. "He is not here, He is risen as He said." (Matthew 28:6) A dead man came back to life to die no more. His name, Jesus the Messiah!

Jesus Christ, Resurrection, Easter Sunday

"On the first day of the week...they saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb." (John 20:1)

"Then the same day at evening, when the doors were shut - Jesus came. (John 20:19)

In a matter of hours what we would do to keep Him in would only serve to prove He was out. Later on the same first Easter day what we would do to keep others out would only serve to invite others in.

Easter is represented by an open tomb and closed doors. Opposites that have attracted the world to the truth of the resurrection from day one.

Death cannot keep it's prey - "Jesus said I am the resurrection and the life." (John 11:25) Could a stone, a guard, and a seal contain the Seed of Life? "Unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain." (John 12:24)

The stone determined to keep Him in met its destiny as the evidence that He is out. Jesus is risen - He is risen indeed! He has conquered death, hell and the grave. The King of Glory has come in (Psalm 24) "Jesus said I am ascending to My Father and your Father. To My God and your God." (John 20:17)

If the stone could not keep Him in the doors could not keep Him out. Their sights and senses shut down by fear the disciples had closed doors within and without. But then came Jesus the doors being shut. (John 20:19) Unless I see, unless I touch His hands, His side. (John 20:25) Thomas, the 10 - they all dealt with doubts and fears.

And so do we. Centuries away and still the same, we close ourselves in with doubts, fears, hurts, misunderstanding, discouragement, tragedy, and loss. And the wonder - the reality of the resurrection, the Glory of Easter is that Jesus is alive and still comes to us that we might never be without Savior and Friend.

Blessed Resurrection!

Matthew 22:34-40 "Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: 'Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?' Jesus replied: 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.'"
